How it works

Video size = bitrate × cameras × hours × days ÷ 8. Photos = number of photos × size per photo. The total is multiplied by the number of copies. The disk suggestion is the smallest common disk size with 20% free space left over.

Questions

How many GB does 1 hour of 4K video take?

At 100 Mbps, one hour of video is 45 GB. At 150 Mbps it is about 67.5 GB, and at 50 Mbps (typical 1080p) it is 22.5 GB.

Why keep two copies?

A hard disk can fail without warning. Keeping the original plus at least one backup on a different disk protects the client's footage until delivery.

Why does the suggested disk have extra space?

The suggestion adds 20% free space for project files, renders and exports, and so the disk is not filled to the top.

Where do I find my camera bitrate?

It is shown in the recording format or quality menu, for example "XAVC S 4K 100M" means about 100 Mbps.
